The name of Thailand was derived from “Prathet Thai”, meaning the land of the free. This new name was officially changed on May 11, 1949, when the country did a proclamation. Before that, the country was famous as “Siam”. The name itself was influenced by the fact that in the past Thailand had never been colonized by Europeans, even though Thailand was rich by rubber and the other mineral resources. Since then, Thailand is popular worldwide as the enchanting country and always visited especially by international travelers looking for the finest villas in Thailand setting.

The Kingdom of Thailand is situated in Southeast Asia near the Gulf of Thailand as well as the Andaman Sea. On the west and northwest side, Thailand is bordered by Myanmar (Burma), by Cambodia on the southeast, and by Malaysia on the south side. The total width of Thailand area is about 513,115 km2, the length of the coastline is more or less 1,840 kilometers away alongside the Gulf of Thailand, and 865 kilometers alongside the Indian Ocean. There are four major regions in Thailand, the North, the Central Plains or Chao Phraya River Basin, The Northeast or the Korat Plateu, and the South or the Southern Peninsula. The other ethnicities include Malay, Cambodian, Indian, Vietnamese, as well as some non-Thai hill tribes. They are all are just minorities compared with Chinese.
